SHANGHAI, China - May 26, 2011 - Mobile game developer ReignDesign announced the release of an update to their popular iOS and Android game Pig Rush that introduces support for Sina Weibo, the popular microblogging service in China.
Pig Rush, which is available for iOS and Android devices, has been a top 10 app in the US iTunes App Store, featured by Apple in dozens of countries, and has been downloaded more than 2 million times. It is believed to be the first top 10 app to support Sina's Weibo service.
On the decision to include Sina Weibo support, ReignDesign's Stephen Ceresia noted, "Since the early days of the App Store, users have been able to share game progress and challenge friends by posting messages to Twitter and Facebook. Many of our users - both in China and abroad - have Weibo accounts, so we thought it would be great to support posting to Weibo in addition to Facebook and Twitter."
On implementing the service, lead Pig Rush developer Juan Manuel Fluxa noted, "Sina provides a clear, easy to use API with English documentation. Integrating Weibo social features into the iOS and Android versions of Pig Rush couldn't have been more straight forward."
Sina Weibo, which is often described as a "Twitter-Facebook hybrid" has hit the Chinese social web by storm, having amassed over 140 million active users as of April 2011, with an estimated 20 million new signups each month.
